Community Fibre proudly calls itself[2] “London’s largest 100% only full fibre network”. Its broadband service is available to over a third of homes in London. Use our postcode checker to see if yours is one of them.
Community Fibre is an altnet, which means they build, own and operate their own infrastructure. They’ve been full fibre (FTTP) since the company started in 2013, so you won’t get the slower technologies of hybrid fibre or ADSL from this provider. Community Fibre boasts the fastest wired upload and download speeds in London - well into the gigabit broadband category with an incredible 3,000Mbps for home broadband. Below that, there’s a range of slower but more affordable packages.
If your part of London is covered by Community Fibre, there are lots of reasons to choose them.
The biggest downside of Community Fibre is their limited coverage. They’re exclusively London-based and cover about 1.3 million properties.[3] The network is rapidly growing, but there’s a good chance they won’t cover your area yet. Use our postcode checker to find out.
Community Fibre has both home and business broadband offers.
Community Fibre offers deals at various speeds for home broadband customers. For example:
They also offer a social tariff called Essentials at 35Mbps.[4]
A note of caution on the gigabit packages: WiFi technology currently isn’t good enough to deliver gigabit speeds, so you’ll only get the maximum through a wired connection. Community Fibre promises that both their 1Gbps packages will give you 450-700Mbps over WiFi. If you choose the “premium WiFi” deal you’ll get extra help with boosting the WiFi coverage throughout your home and getting the highest speeds that are possible without an ethernet cable.
Lightning-fast speeds up to a maximum of 10Gbps are available when you get Community Fibre for your London business:
All Community Fibre broadband deals for businesses have 100% target servicing availability, as well as no throttling or traffic management. Also, expect a static IP address, unlimited data, tech support, quick setup and service-level agreements with money back guarantee. Community Fibre broadband will be delivered straight to your business premises using FTTP cables.
Speeds start at an average of 150Mbps for both home and business broadband deals.
Community Fibre’s very top speed of 10Gbps (10,000Mbps) is only available to business users.
But residential customers can get 3Gbps (3,000Mbps) which is a market-beating speed.
Yes, Community Fibre is a fibre-only provider, so you’ve never needed a landline to get their broadband service.
If you want to make voice calls from your home you can add the Calls service to your broadband deal. This is a digital landline but it will work with your old handset (if you have one).
London is very well served for broadband and you have a wide choice of providers. Our page on London broadband gives the full list, but basically you have the full choice of national broadband providers plus two altnets: Community Fibre and Hyperoptic. Those last two have limited coverage and may not have reached your home (yet) so use our address checker to find out what’s available right now.
Switching broadband is easier now than it’s ever been, thanks to One Touch Switch. You no longer have to coordinate the switch between your new and old providers - just sign up with the new one and they’ll do the rest.
Finding a new broadband provider is easy too, with Go.Compare. Put your postcode into our address checker for an up-to-date list of what’s available for your home, then search and sort to compare the choices.
Community Fibre installs its own fibre optic cables rather than using the BT Openreach network. So its network is geographically limited compared to other providers. It’s exclusively in the London area and covers around 1.3 million properties. They don’t publish information about which areas they’re working on, but you can use Go.Compare’s postcode checker (above) to find out in a second or two if they cover your area already. If not, you can register your interest on the Community Fibre website (after using their postcode checker).
Community Fibre supply a router free with all their home broadband deals. You’ll get a different router depending on what speed range you’ve chosen.
At the time of writing, Community Fibre offers a student discount.[5]
Yes, Community Fibre’s top speed for home broadband is 3Gbps (3,000Mbps) which beats every other UK provider out there. But this is literally ten times more than most households need, so do think about how much you’ll be using (and check out our guide “ What broadband speed do I need? ”)
